WHAT IS AERIAL YOGA?

Aerial yoga, also known as aerial hammock yoga or anti-gravity yoga, is a unique and dynamic form of yoga that incorporates the use of a fabric hammock or swing to support various yoga poses and movements that they may not ordinarily be able to attempt on the yoga mat. Practitioners use the hammock to assist, resist, and enhance traditional yoga postures, allowing for greater flexibility, strength, and stability.

It is often also referred to as AntiGravity® yoga.

It combines traditional yoga with moves inspired by pilates, dance and acrobatics.

Aerial yoga originated in New York and is now popular all over the world.

It was created by Christopher Harrison, a dancer with a performance background in acrobatics.

Aerial yoga is thought to be particularly beneficial for students who spend a long time sitting, or who have back pain, because it has a decompressing effect on the spine.

WHAT ARE IT’S BENEFITS?

Aerial yoga offers a wide range of physical and mental benefits, including increased flexibility, improved core strength, enhanced balance, and spinal decompression. In addition to the emotional, and spiritual benefits of all yoga practices, it improves circulation, boosts confidence, and digestion, and lifts one’s mood. It also provides a sense of playfulness and exploration as participants move through the air, which can be both physically challenging and mentally invigorating.

In Aerial yoga, the hammock is kept close to the ground, generally less than a meter from the floor.

It becomes a swing which can support the hips in both forward and back bends. For many people, yoga postures that are difficult on the ground can be performed more easily and with less strain on the body in mid-air.

Strengthens Muscles

Aerial Flow focuses on your core as well as on integrating all group muscles which is required to keep yourself balanced and stabilised during class.

Increase your flexibility

You will be able to try out various new positions with the help and support of the aerial silk.

Improve focus

When in a challenging situation, you will be encouraged to be more cautious and aware of controlling each movement. The level of focus will be improved while being suspended in the air.

Improves Digestion

The various kinds of movements and stretches aid in improving the digestive system and curing various digestion related problems including indigestion and constipation.

Makes you smile, laugh and happy

As you go against gravity, you will have an adrenaline rush which leads to the release of the
“happy” hormones – endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin. These hormones boost your mood and make you feel more energetic and happy.

Alleviates Spine related problems

Your spine lengthens when you are upside down in the silk. It decompresses the tension between each vertebra and joints.

Combats aging symptoms

Your blood circulation increases while doing aerial yoga which benefits in normalizing
blood pressure, whilst providing relief from joint pain. Your improved blood circulation also aids in nourishing your skin.

It makes you fit!

Be a regular practitioner and experience it for yourself!

Although Aerial yoga can be performed by people with all levels of fitness, it’s important to practice it under the guidance of a qualified instructor to ensure safety and proper alignment in the poses. It’s a fun and creative way to add a new dimension to your yoga practice and explore the joy of suspended movement.

it is not recommended for pregnant women or those who suffer from vertigo and extreme fatigue, due to the flips and inversions practised during the class.
